Route 5: West Coast Village

Route 5 of Cape Camino is a coastal village-to-village walking route along the West Coast of the Western Cape, offering a 3–6 day pilgrimage between St Helena Bay, Paternoster, Jacobs Bay and Saldanha Bay. This multi-day Camino follows sandy tracks, coastal footpaths and quiet shoreline roads, with daily distances ranging from approximately 14km to 23km. The route passes working fishing communities, natural harbours and seasonal wildflower fields, combining open sea views with small-town character and artisan culture.

The West Coast Village Camino is mostly flat with one gradual incline section and some uneven coastal terrain, making it accessible to walkers with a moderate level of fitness. Accommodation is hosted by local guesthouses, homestays and small lodges, providing a supported and community-connected experience. Route 5 is ideal for pilgrims seeking coastal scenery, local food culture and a slower-paced Western Cape walking journey, and can be booked as a standalone route or combined with other Cape Camino routes to extend the pilgrimage experience.
